J&J Industries Partners with Northwest Whitfield High School

Two Marketing classes from Northwest Whitfield High School are getting a hands-on experience in the world of carpet.  J&J Industries has partnered with the school to give students an opportunity to name and promote two new products that the company will release later this year under their brand, J+J/Invision.

The partnership began when Mrs. Lindsay Douglas, Marketing teacher at Northwest High School, contacted J&J Industries.

“I wanted to give my students a real-life experience outside of the classroom and expose them to future careers that exist within our community. Working with J&J Industries allowed me to collaborate with professionals to design an experience for my marketing students that some of them will never forget,” said Douglas.

An overview discussion was presented by two marketing associates from J&J Industries to help familiarize Northwest marketing students with the many aspects of carpet manufacturing and customer focus.

The two classes were then invited to the mill for a tour of J&J Industries’ manufacturing facilities.  David Jolly, President and CEO greeted the students, along with many other members of J&J’s Executive Management team.  Whitfield County Schools Superintendent, Danny Hayes, also joined one of the classes on the tour to get a hands-on look at carpet manufacturing and to support his students in taking on a real-life experience.

During the tour they saw the creation of carpet from beginning to end.  They also met with the J&J Product Design Team to get a look at the many ways that they find inspiration, along with the many phases of product design.

While at J&J Industries, the students were introduced to the two carpets that they will be working on to name and to prepare the marketing materials.  The students will present their ideas on March 14, 2011 to the J&J Industries design team.

J&J Industries is using this opportunity to not only give the students a real-life experience but also to promote furthering their education.

“We are excited for these students to be able to see all of the opportunities that the carpet industry has to offer.  They have been able to witness many career fields that they did not even know existed,” said Natalie Faulkner, Creative Marketing and Communications Manager for J&J Industries.

“I never thought that I would be a person to work in the carpet industry, however it looks like I took everything the industry does for granted.  Thanks to J&J, I know more about carpet and I am interested in pursuing this business,” said Allee Worley, marketing student at Northwest Whitfield High School.
