Six Choices to Consider When Specifying Products

J+J/Invision believes there is more than one single attribute or certification that encompasses sustainability. While existing voluntary environmental standards often lead to confusion, J+J/Invision achieves the highest levels of environmental stewardship by collaborating with our customers – from start to finish.

From specification to installation and recycling, our environmental expertise guides you throughout the process.

One. No single product attribute or certification can encompass sustainability.

When only a single product attribute or certification is evaluated during the product selection process, other holistic components to sustainability go unnoticed (e.g. corporate footprint or social responsibility). Consider a broad set of attributes and certifications when identifying the appropriate product for your needs.

Two. Specifying the right product can have a huge impact on its longevity.

J+J/Invision provides a wide selection of choices and performance options, enabling the customization of our products tailored to the application. Choices such as broadloom or modular, performance treatments, extended product warranties, a variety of fiber configurations and dye methods, and following recommended maintenance guidelines all contribute to extending the life span of products.

Three. Environmental stewardship is not about having the biggest mouth but rather the smallest footprint.

J+J/Invision is a highly integrated, privately owned mill, enabling us to monitor and control our footprint with relative ease. Conservation is at the core of our conduct and moral fiber. All J+J/Invision products are manufactured in an ISO 14001 facility. We have set aggressive goals on waste minimization, greenhouse gas management, and water and energy conservation. We have a legacy to leave to our community and environment.

Four. Sustainability is inherently complex and often requires value judgments—not marketing claims.

J+J/Invision recognizes this and strives to offer choices and information to enable our customers to make decisions best suited for their application. Engage in a dialogue with us so we can collectively identify the products (modular or broadloom), attributes (PVC or PVC-free) and certifications (ISO 14001 or NSF-140) that best resonate with your company or clients.

Five. J+J/Invision is a trusted partner to facilitate the recycling of post-consumer carpet—regardless of manufacturer.

As a continuing supporter of the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE) and other reclamation networks, we strive to identify the best end-of-life management option for carpet products. Some call this extended producer responsibility, we call it doing the right thing.

Six. Without quality manufacturing and great aesthetics, sustainability would be a wash.

The majority of the environmental impact associated with a square yard of carpet is attributed to the supply chain. That means getting the most out of your carpet from a performance and aesthetics perspective can dramatically alter its life cycle impacts. The longer we use a product, the less we abuse the environment. We all play a role in the sustainability equation and selecting products with enduring aesthetics that are engineered for longevity will ultimately reduce our environmental footprint.
