TileTabs' Frequently Asked Questions

What makes TileTabs different?

The grip strips on TileTabs provide stabilization through a low-tack, high shear boundary layer to assist the installation and prevent creep in high traffic areas.

Why is this useful?

The grip strips will be especially helpful in areas where J+J/Invision modular carpet will be used to assemble area rugs. This will be especially valuable at entry points where J+J walk off modular carpet can be used to assemble walk off mats over existing hard surfaces like wood, tile and terrazzo.

How does the cost of TileTabs compare with a regular full spread adhesive?

TileTabs are comparable with traditional adhesive.

How do I determine how many TileTabs I need?

A roll of TileTabs is comparable to a bucket of traditional adhesive. One roll of TileTabs covers approximately 120 square yards of carpet. Ashlar and Brick installations generally require 35% more TileTabs than Monolithic and Quarter Turn installations.

What is the minimum order?

TileTabs are sold by the roll and cannot be broken into smaller increments.

How do I order TileTabs?
TileTabs may be ordered or specified ony with any J+J/Invision Nexus or eKo modular product.

Can TileTabs be used more than once?
No. TileTabs are only intended for one-time use.

What floor prep is required prior to installing J&J modular carpet using the TileTabs system?
The floor prep requirements are the same as when installing J&J modular carpet using an adhesive.

Is it necessary to complete slab moisture and pH tests when TileTabs are used?
Yes. Although moisture and pH are unlikely to affect the performance of TileTabs, they may still impact the carpet modules and must be measured.

Are TileTabs a solution to slabs with high moisture and/or pH?
No. TileTabs are not a solution to slabs with high moisture and pH. Slabs with out-of-spec moisture and pH must be remediated prior to installing with TileTabs.

Do installations with TileTabs require encapsulation of existing adhesives?
Existing adhesives, including water based and cutback or solvent based, must be scraped down to a minimal residue and sealed with TriSeal sealer.

Can J&J modular carpet be installed with TileTabs over hardwood and other decorative flooring and be later removed with no resulting damage or residue on the floor underneath?
Tricky problem. Decorative flooring surfaces can be lightly scuffed when modular carpet is installed over them, and there is a remote chance of some discoloration from the backing over time. However, any residue from the connectors that might remain on the floor post-removal can easily be cleaned off using common household citrus-based cleaners.

Can TileTabs be used to install modular carpet over existing carpet?
No. Old carpet must be completely removed prior to installing modular carpet with TileTabs.

Are J&J carpet modules installed with TileTabs compatible with raised access flooring systems?
Yes, TileTabs are perfectly suited to installing modular carpet on raised access flooring. Simply cut the TileTabs to remove the modules, and install new ones when reinstalling the modules.

Can TileTabs be used when installing modular carpet using furniture lift systems?
Yes. TileTabs are very compatible with installations where lift systems are used.

Do TileTabs require any special conditions for storage, and do they have a shelf life?
TileTabs are generally resistant to both temperature and humidity. Long-term storage above 140F should be avoided. TileTabs should be used within one year of purchase.

Are installations of J&J modular carpet using TileTabs ADA compliant?
Yes. TileTabs installations are “stable, firm and slip-resistant and do not pose a tripping hazard” as defined by the United States Access Board – Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines- Bulletin #4: “Ground and Floor Surfaces.”

Are there any areas where TileTabs should not be used?
Yes. TileTabs should not be used to install modular carpet on stairs, ramps or inclines.

Are TileTabs warranted with other manufacturers products?
No. TileTabs are warranted for three years when used with J&J tiles only.
